what exactly would happen if instead of connecting positive and negative i did pos. and pos or neg and neg.? dont think im an idiot and went off and did this i am just wondering/
what exactly are you asking, swapping leads. puting positive where neg. should go and the other way around? if that is the case you are swapping polarity and sending the current the wrong direction. dependent on what kind of equipment you are using it can mess up but as far as speakers go it doesnt make that much of a difference.
When you reverse the polarity of speakers it makes them fire in reverse which can (eventually) damage them according to some manufactureres. Not reccommended, but I did it for three weeks in my Ranger on accident before I fixed it and never noticed any difference, just as loud and clear as all the other speakers. *shrug*
Connecting speakers to an amp with the polarity opposite of what it should be causes the speaker cone to be moving in the opposite direction of how it should be. And it does affect how the speaker sounds, especially the bass response. A quick way to check is to use a 9V battery and on the amplifier end of the wire, touch the ends of the wire to the battery terminals. When the cone moves outward is when the + speaker wire is on the positive terminal of the battery. Only do this for a split second, and DO NOT do this on tweeters.
ok i did something rong here. i just bearly bought me one of those crossovers for stock radios so u can plug amps into the stock unit. i hooked it all up and pluged in some old speakers to check to see if it was goin to work and teh speakers make a static sound at low levels. coudl someone help me?
Yeah really. I don't know of any speakers that fire better in reverse. Subs definetly wouldn't. Tweeters wouldn't. And I highly doubt the midranges do since they sound worse... so yeah. Your evidence being?
allright, i hooked some "test speakers" up to my friends radio and everyhitng is workin good. i hook them up to mine and everything is not good. i am getting a static noise out of them
