I have a 99 crewcab, auto trans, everything completely stock
Problem::::
When engine is cold with the trans in park or nuetral i can step on the pedal and the engine will rev just fine. When I put it in gear 'reverse or any forward gear" it won't hardly move out of it's tracks. Maybe top speed of 15mph, for about a mile, then it will take off just fine and shift just fine once warm. I have no know codes trans is full and clean.
Is this a trans issue ?????
please help
Dave
If it is cold enough, the Exhaust Backpressure Valve (EBPV) will be closed. This aids the engine in a faster heatup. When you drive at a cold temp without the engine warmed (EBPV closed condition) the truck will be very sluggish. Then after a few minutes the EBPV opens and power is regained. Listen to your exhaust, if you hear a hissing/roaring sound (not turbo whistle) this means that the EBPV is closed.
When I bought my F250 this happend one day during the winter and I did not know what to think. After reading topics on the FTE, I found out what had happend. Hope this helps.
Being the same temp and yours doing the same thing make me feel better that its not a major issue.
Im going to unplug mine and see if it continues (It did it again this morning) It may not be a fix, but at least it will trouble shoot to see it it happens again that it wasnt the problem.
