I have the 6 disc CD changer in my '05 F-150 XLT. This was the premium system for the XLT. Poor to say the least. I saw that the Larait has the same system, but there is a sub woofer under the left rear folding seat. While the system wasn't great, it sure sounded better than mine. The sub rounded out the sound. I'm thinking about looking into the sub. Does anyone know if a pre wire condition exists where I can just buy and install the sub? If not, what needs to be done and is there any major modifications to my existing system that needs to be done?
hi
i just installed the audiophile system in my lariat. number one the radio head is different than what you have due to the sub woofer out connection.second you need to pull the radio and see if there is a small connector taped to the main radio connector(i seriously doubt that your xlt will have it as audiophile was not an option in the xlt) however if it does happen to have this then with the right head and factory sub it is plug and play. if not you will have to fabricate the harness which is difficult but possible. there was a thread about this somwhere on this site. if you dont have the harness i feel that an aftermarket sub and amp would be much easier and will sound as good when installed correctly. many here like aftermarket systems and i cant fault that but i wanted to keep mine factory and am very pleased with the audiophile addition even though i did not change the front door speakers hope this helps

Having had an upgraded after market Kenwood with 10 deck CD and upgraded speakers in my last pickup I noted with my current '04 XLT that my current stock 6-CD stereo was not that far away in listening quality than from my past Kenwood.
With a pickup having close quarters listening it is difficult to achieve that true "stereo" sound that requires larger space between speakers and listener. However, on my '04 I did upgrade my stock back speakers to Pioneer TS-G6870R, 3-way, and added the surrounding rubber baffle. This gave me sharper balance overall (if such a thing can really be achieved in a pickup). My settings are exactly on center rather than more speaker to front or back. Excellent balance.
The after market speakers from Crutchfield came with plug in pigtails that allowed instant installation of the back speakers with no home made harnessing or soldering.
I took out my stock 6 disc audiophile system unit from my 04 Lariat and installed a Kenwood Double Din DVD head unit (DDX-7015) in it and added two Rockford Fosgate 10's run by a Profile AP1200 300x2 watt amp to it. I must say that it pounds. I had the head unit directly wired to the subs beofre I bought the Kenwood, all you need is to connect a AudioLink PowerLink II line converter to your rear speaker outs. If You need any help or anything let me know.
I personally wouldn't bother listening to any of these people. If you are in fact looking for a system(i.e. subs, speakers, head, ampS) Your gonna have to get the best because the spacing between the backseat and seat is only large enough to fit two 10" subs. which means you will need to purchase 4 new door speakers with a separate amp for max power. Downfire 2 10" subs with its own separate amp and then get a bass control head unit. No clarions. AND definitely nothing rockford fosgate.... That makes me laugh when i hear people purchasing fosgates. Drop some cash and get some D9 diamond audio's. JL is too expensive and D9's are louder.
i have a lightning audio amp and 2 cerwin-vega 10 inch subs couldnt b happier!! as far as adding an amp 2 your factory 6 disc all u have 2 get is a converter that converts from regular wires 2, RCA jacks, after that its all plug and play
Any chance you could pull your stock head out and see what outputs it has in the back? I have an XLT on order with the 6-disc option and am wondering what the back looks like.
And, could you make me a sandwich while you're at it?
