Is this normal?
Been doing a lot of highway driving lately. Keep in mind this is with the O/D engaged. I had the tranny rebuilt about one year ago and haven't been to happy with it since. It's a 4r44E...piece of junk but anyhow. Here's my question.
At 80mph on the interstate I sit at 3700rpm's consistantly. Does this sound right? Seems high to me.
Truck specs: 1996 3.0 4x4 Extended cab with 3.73 gears.

3700 is high. Drive from a stop to 80 mph (I assume you are on a highway, I know on 45 from Dallas-Houston we can do 95ish no problem). Make sure it's going through all gears. Turn radio off and listen for the shifting and watch the tach. Almost seems like it's not getting into 4th/OD.

i have to agree with ranger pilot. it sounds like o/d is not engaging. in third it will rev that high then hit the o/d button and should almost immediatly kick in and the rpms will come down if it doesn't you have problems! by the way ranger pilot, sorry about the astros, yes i'm a huge SOX fan!

It does kick into 4o/d but it seems like it should do it much sooner as well as much smoother. Granted the 3.0h so slow is a much harder working engine than the 4.0, it really shouldn't be straining this much at this speed.
