There is a rod through the block. I would like to repower with an efi engine to be able to tow equipment trailers loaded with cars.
What size engine would be recommended for this truck. I have a 5.0 efi from a '89 Lincoln.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

A 5.0 would work as that is what it had before but for you application I would go with a 351W as it is the biggest engine that would bolt up to your AOD.

Don't even attempt it with a F150
It's not built for heavy hauling
You need a HD 250, F350 or Superduty with a 460 or Diesel
351's are great motors until you try to tow a HEAVY LOAD

I've had the displeasure of driving an (81 or 82) F-350 w/ a carbed 351M (Stroker). It was a Dually w/ a Utility box and a 4 SPD (probably NP-435). This truck was used to haul a heavy loads all of the time. It was a dog when it came to getting up and going.
