I am wondering why some trucks have a brace going from the transfer case back to a crossmember and some trucks don't. I pulled a NP203 out of my '75 f250 4x4 and replaced it with a 205 and now the brace is to short. the 205 came out of a '76 f250 4x4 and it never had this brace because the bracket is not on the crossmember for it.both are longbed reg. cab 133"wb trucks. do I need this? is it only on the trucks that come with the NP203? and will it hurt the mounts if its not there? these may sound like dumb questions but I was just wondering why they used it on one and not the other. any ideas anyone?
My dads 205 has the brace. Im not sure which trucks get it and which dont, I imagine it was an option available to the buyer or somethin. We've been runnin without it for quite sometime and havent had any problems, but Im sure it does increase the wear on the t-case mount bushings.
I heard it was for the divorced TC because it could shift out of gear under certain loads. The Ford manual for my 73 shows it and mine doesn't have it but it's easy enough to make one.
My TC used to slip out of gear because of movement, then I re-adjusted the shifter but having the brace would be better.
