I am going to change my 74 F-350 390 over to Durospark in my quest for reliability and mpg's, I have a choice of single or dual diaphram stock distributors. What are the advantages and disadvantages of both?
I've always wondered about those dual diaphram dizzy's?
Heck none of my stuff has any hooked up at all. Two of them have stock dizzy's installed, but I unhooked the vacuum advance and it runs great. I set total timing and let it go, just like my Mallory mech adv. dizzy's.
Those dual diaphragm vacuum advances are mainly for emissions to pull the timing at some point to lower an emission...
Use a single...
As to the Duraspark, you might be better off just getting a Pertronix unit (or whatever other brand is out that everyone likes)... it fits into your stock distributor, no wiring hassles, nothing.
You might want to consider a higher-voltage coil if the Pertronix can handle it.
