Just purchased a 1977 F-150 4x4, 460 and a C-6. The engine has an edelbrock carb. Where can I find the Id #'s so I can find what size and model it is? The carb seems to load up so bad that it will not idle and only runs decent when it is going down the road. I have never worked on an edelbrock but I am thinking float setting or flooding due to leaking needle seat. What do you experts think? Where can I find tuning specs and information for this carb?

personal i would just sell that carb. i've heard nothing but bad things about it. i just bought a truck with that carb on it and the throtle linkage bushing has a big vac leak. i sent it out to a carb shop to fix it so i can pass emission test. the guy at the shop told me these carb are only good for about 8 months before you'll start having problems. and the guy i bought the truck from said he bought it just under a year ago. if this carb get's messed up again i'm gonna get the new Holly 4x4 carb. if you want to try and fix it your self email Mil1ion (Dennis) i think he has spec on how to tune it.

on the front of the base flange is a stamped number probably 1406 or close to it. I have discovered the Edelbrock/Holley dispute is about as big as Ford/Chevy/Dodge. I haven't had a bit of trouble with mine, its been on for 4 years now. I hated the Holley that was on it, it seemed to do what your Edel. is doing. Sounds like it needs a little TLC. go to Edelbrock.com, I think you can order the owners manuals or at least request one.

hi
I don't know much about edelbrock other than there intakes, but If you use a Q-Jet it will have much more power. I know what some people say about them, but the truth is that if you tune it right it can be much better than holly or carter. they didn't put very many stock on the 460, if any but, you will like the results after a tank of gas to tune it. One thing you must know about carbs is that once it is used maybe more than one year than the factory specs are not correct. you must do all fine tunning yourself. I personally have had better luck this way.

Sounds like you are on the right track. I have a 600cfm Edelbrock that is 4+ years old on my daily driver. The only trouble I've ever had with it is a little dirt in the needle/seat (sounds like what yours is doing). It was flooding terribly, had to floor it to start and would die at idle. I just removed the top and cleaned the needle/seats out and it's worked great since.

I agree with Dave - Edelbrock vs. Holley is like Ford vs. Chevy, depends on what you like. I also was having trouble with a Holley 650 (had it apart many many times) so I got the Edelbrock and have been VERY happy with it. Only trouble was the one case of flooding. I suggest sticking with the Edelbrock, or you could always send it to me, I would give it a good home.

On the topic of Edelbrocks, I have one on my 77 F-150 4x4 400. My truck idles well, but if I try to floor it at the stop light, she tends to die out, possibly flooding. This prevents me from peeling out. If I ease the accelerator, then floor it, she will take off...its just the inital acceleration from stop. Any suggestions from you Edelbrock experts (or non-experts)?

AK47, Instructions on how to "peel out" Put the truck in reverse, back up with the accelerator on the floor until the truck stops gaining speed, maybe a 1/4 mile or so, then pull it in neutral with your foot still on the floor yank it into low gear. OOOH yeah! I remember those peel outs.

I have had excelent luck with my edelbrock on my 300i6 and its been on other engines aswell so I dont think they wear out in 8 months. But any carb can have problems in time its very possible its tune up related aswell. Dzjammer is correct on the numbers location also. I beleive 1405 is the 600cfm and 1407 the 750cfm. There may be other model numbers but to the best of my knowledge they only make 600 and 750 cfm models.

Good Luck Andy
