Battery Box
I need to know the size of the ford battery box on 1978 F250 4*4 Camper special. The reason I need to know is I just purchased the truck and it Is 200 miles from the house. The truck has an electrical problem, so I want to take a battery down there so I can do some trouble shooting. I have a couple of batterys in the shop, one is a 950cca and l*w*h is 13"*9"*7.5" i'm not sure that it will fit. The other is 850cca and is 11"*7*7.5 i'm pretty sure it will work but not certain. So if any of you know the size of the battery box, the info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Considering that Ford batteries back in 78 were labelled 27F & 24F
and the fact that TODAY the largest available case for vehicles with 1000 CCA is 24(is the smaller of the two).
A 27 was longer than a 24 but,share the same width.
And I doubt you are talking about a deep cell battery for the camper but ,rather the Starting battery instead.
I would think that any newer style battery would be fine.

What type of battery would you reccomend for the camper side? I guess I would need to make sure that it was wired for an isolater of some sort?
Anyway that is in the future. If the box is a standered 7" by 12" I will take the 850cca battery.
BTW I have a tailgate off a 1975 F250 excellent condition with all the hardware if anyone is interested. rjthornton(No Email Addresses In Posts!)

For the camper get a DEEP CYCLE battery.
It has a different rating than auto batteries.
They charge slow and drain slow.
I have a GEL type Deep Cycle battery.
Do you have a specialty battery place near you.
ie: Batteries Incorporated
