Splint on Finger

I recently had a splint on my finger because of a deep cut on my finger where it bends and it has been on there a week and I took it off today and I have no control over my finger, I can bend it if I use my other hand to move it but doing it with my muscles its a no go right now, Anyone have any tips on things I can do to get my finger moving again? Thanks

Do you not have any control over it or is it just stiff? I once cut my finger so deep it cut the tendon The tendon didnt break until 3 days after the doctor stiched the cut. I couldnt move my finger at all, I could straighten it out with my other hand and it would just spring back down.

We can make suggestions here but on matters such as this I believe you should make an appointment to see a doctor asap. I would put the splint back on and call the doc. I hope your finger heals up right and quick.

when i got my cast off of forearm after 6 weeks, it was all dead and crusty looking (NICE! ) he said that after 24-48 hours of non-use, the muscles in the fingers/arms die or become dormant. i do know for a fact that you loose muscle mass (not really a problem in fingers, unless you are a finger-bencher (kind of like the miller commercials )

what i would do is gently try to move it on your own, do not push it. since there isnt much muscles in your finger, it probably will take a long time to get all the movement back. do not stretch it too much or pull it around with your other hand. easy does it, and about a week of this and you should be back to normal. good luck.

Stitches are a bad deal - they create additional scarring.

You will have to work it to bring back as much mobility as you can.

Over time, you may be succesful or not.

First question: Did the doctor say you could take it off?

If yes, then get a 5 gallon pail and fill it with ice and water. Then, take it up to your bathroom, fill the sink up with hot water. Then, take your hand, and dunk it in the ice water for a minute. After that, dunk it in the hot water for a minute. Keep doing that back and forth for about 15 or 20 minutes a day.

If no, then put that splint back on.

Second question, how did you cut your finger so deep?

yes, it will get better, but you HAVE to work it. i'm stuck with a crooked finger because i didn't work it as much as i should have. that, and its just really jacked up. seriously, if the cut is healed, heat it up, and work it with your free hand, and the finger itself. its a pain in the *** to have a messed up finger....i dunno if i'll ever be physically able to wear a wedding ring, put it that way....

on edit, i forgot to mention, i had broken my finger behind the big knuckle, and i've got a alloy plate screwed to my finger now....no fun.
