Occassionally when accelerating, I hear a clicking noise from the engine...almost like the lifters clicking. Normal city driving I don't hear it as much due to slow acceleration, etc.....mostly on highways or long stretch of road where I accelerate more rapidly.
when is the last time you changed the oil? I ask becasue dirty oil might cause the problem. I have had vehicles in thepast that when the lifters start ticking it's time to change the oil. Change the oil and filter and it is gone until next oil change. My two cents.
If you run Sea Foam through the gas tank it will clean the injectors. Question if it has done it since you owned the vehicle why worry now or is it starting to get worse. I believe these trucks or the 4.6 has hydraulic lifters if they do they are self adjusting, if not then it could need a adjustment, If I am wrong on this then some one will pipe in and correct me. Normaly if it needs adjustment you might hear it all the time.
If it doesnt end up beeing an exhuast leak or valves need adjustment, for now you can get buy till you adjust them buy using a product called Marvel Mystery Oil(Can be purchased at your local auto parts store:Autozone, advanced auto). its added to the oil and quiets lifters but not a long term solution though. I have used this for hydrallic lifters on an old hotrod i had, and it work.Just a guess here also might be timing chain. Mine will make the same noise under hard accelaration when the oil is bad or low.
