My valvetrain is nice and quiet when the engine is cold, but when it gets warmed up, The lifters click a little (almost like a sewing machine). I have adjustable rockers and the preload was checked and triple checked.
Anyone elses lifters noisy?
They are new Erson lifters. Also, I've tried 10-40w and am now trying straight 40w. Oil pressure is 80psi on startup, then goes to 60 under normal driving conditions.
I bought everything from DSC, so I hope I got good quality stuff. I'm almost tempted to put my old(NEW) performer cam back in to get the mileage and low end torque..., 'cause it worked fine on non-adjustables with no lifter noise. Athough,-- this cam hauls ***.
Anti pump up? What the .... I wish Dennis at DSC would have told me. I'll have to drive down and have him listen to my engine, just to have peace of mind that somethings not up with it. Noise isnt tooo bad, although it just sounds like it's low on oil.

Don't go flaming anyone, I'm no expert!!!
I'm just saying my 390 made more noise than my 360, but it had double valve-springs, anti-pumpup lifters and a pretty big cam, slightly bigger than the "941" ...
anti-pumpup lifters are a GOOD thing...
Again, don't take me as an expert, it's just that I'm the only one replying to this thread so far... let it sit until tomorrow, you'll have lots of answers...
no, I'm OK, I just hope, since I burned up a cam (crane 941) and didn't completely dissasemble the engine, that there is no little pieces of metal from the lobe or the burned up lifter caught up in the oil passages. I don't think so because it sounds quiet on startup for about 15 minutes.
I'm running Crane's anti-pump up lifters on 3 different motors, only one lifter made noise on startup due to a manufactures metal splinter. When hot "zero" lifter noise. They were the only lifters that didn't pump up with large and heavy stainless intake valves at 5,800 rpm's. This is with over 480K miles and 3 different motors.
.....=o&o>.....
Well in the 395" in the truck now... I have a Comp RV cam.. with just a new set of stock lifter's..and on startup for about 3 secs. you here the lifters make noise after it has sat for a few days (4 or 5) be then it goes away..once they pump back up..
Disc, checked and triple checked. Well, okay, but where did you set them ? I mean, how much preload is there ? There is some disagreement, even among engine builders, on what the right amount of preload is. On a hydralic lifter engine with adjustables, I like 1/4 turn or less of preload when everything is stone cold. Thats what has always worked well for me. But one of my engines has Rhoads lfters in it, so once it is warm they are as noisy as can be. DF
1/4 turn, huh? set them initially for 1/2 turn cold, but it clattered. Then I tried to crank it another 1/2 turn, and it still clatters. Should I crank them out to 1/4 turn, or crank them down more-maybe with the engine running? I think I will either get used to it, or put my edel performer cam back in - it was a pretty good quiet low ender, with better mileage - but not as fun to drive.
