HD Block Casting #
I did some searching on here earlier today and found a post containing
HD casting #'s . They are as follows from that thread: C5AE, C6AE, C9AE, and D5TE-AA.
The casting # on my block is D5TE-60xx (15 or 75??, couldn't make out the last two #'s very well)-AA.
Is this a HD block?
If so would it have a forged crank?
Is it possible to have a HD block w/ a cast crank?
Sorry for all of the questions, I'd just like to know what are the chances that a '77 F150 4x4 would have a HD crank? This is also a non-emission engine as per the emission decal.
I seem to recall someone mentioning that the HD duty engines had an alternator bracket that was unlike the standard engines of the day. Anyone care to elaborate on this or recall if this is a fact? If so what would that alternator bracket look like?
WHEW!!! Sorry about the long post, just would like to know the possibilities.
Here is that thread: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...ghlight=d5teaa

stamped steel alternator bracket, Non-emissions, carb spacer does not have egr provisions (it has a vaccum port for thr power booster). Also it appears that the HD engines came with the cam gear bolted on, instead of pressed on, and a HD cooling system. Which I thought my radiator was a V8! one.
Can ayone else eloaborate? Thanks. I'll look at my cam gear sometime.
Also my emissions sticker reads "....conforms to 1977 HD fueled engines"
"Also my emissions sticker reads "....conforms to 1977 HD fueled engines" this was used after '75 to get past having cats and is on everything but an F100, later it was only used on trucks over 8000lbs
I'm not really concerned about having a forged crank, the cast is suitable enough (unless your running 6.5k rpms under 12 lbs of boost
)I would just like to really know a little more info about HD blocks. (yes, I did search)
I'm not going to bother with a forged crank unless I trip over one for a decent price

Although, it would be nice to say "Yeah, it's got a forged crank, blah, blah, blah..."
Ford produced an SVO 300 block, believe it or not. They weren't put in production vehicles though.
bigblockcapri460 has one, if you look in the turbo sticky at the top of this section, he mentions some details of the SVO vs your standard block, at least it used to be there, I think the moderator trimmed it down some, not sure if that info is still there.
Hope you find one.

If there is no such thing as a HD block, then why is there info here and on fordsix.com?
I'm not ppicking a fight, but there seem to be conflicting answers. Anyhow, I just wanted to be as educated as possible about it all. Thanks.

No problem, I don't feel your starting a fight, its better to question than take someones word for it, IMO.
