I have a few questions for fellow owners who have been using the Sylvania Silverstars.

1) Do those have higher wattage than the stock 9007 bulbs?

2) Do they produce more light than the stock 9007 bulbs? I'm sick of the deathly looking light on the Aerostars. 10 years ago, that was OK since I was young, my eyes are better, but now I'm just an old feeble man with bad eyesight

3) If they do produce more light, then how?

1. No they are not a higher wattage bulb (relatively speaking.)

2. Yes, and a white light (that is why they are blue), instead of yellow. It is a more natural light making objects more clear at night.

3. Sylvania has been making bulbs for about 100 years. Silverstars are high quality bulbs that are designed for those that want HID but don't want to spend $1000+ to convert. Here is some more info: http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProd...nce/Silverstar

The webpages below is a very informative and well-written post about the Silverstars and blue-tinted bulbs in general. It is definately a must read for anyone considering "upgrading" their headlamp bulbs and may make you reconsider purchasing them...

More info from the same author...
http://www.danielsternlighting.com/t...lbs/bulbs.html

From what I learned from the above sites, the Sylvania Xtravisions appear to be a better buy than the Silverstars. The Xtravisions are the exact same bulb as the Silverstar but don't have the blue tint on the glass. The Xtravision and Silverstar both utilize a higher output, overdriven filament, but operates at the same wattage as the stock bulb. And despite being identical in construction, the Xtravision's intensity is higher than the Silverstar since the latter's blue coating cuts down on the total light output by filtering out the yellow spectrum of the total light emitted from the filament. This blue coating is what produces the "whiter" light associated with the Silverstars. Most people perceive this "whiter" light as being "brighter," when in reality it usually is not the case.

The subjective nature of light brightness accounts for the large variation in opinions regarding Silverstars or any other blue-tinted aftermarket bulb. Some people say the difference between stock and Silverstar is like "night and day," while others say they see little difference in brightness. Light intensity, on the other hand, is objective and quantifiable using a light meter.

From this info, if you want the most light intensity for your money and don't care for the trendy "HID" look, the Xtravisions are the way to go. The run about 1/2 the price of Silverstars. But keep in mind that the higher output filament in both the Xtravisions and Silverstars will reduce bulb longevity when compared to a "stock" bulb. Here is a quote, taken verbatim, from Sylvania's very own website...

"The life expectancy of a SilverStar halogen light source is dependent on the driver’s use of the lights, which vary by season, time of day and number of miles driven. We estimate the SilverStar halogen lights to have a life span of up to one year under average driving conditions."

They are slightly a higher wattage then stock for example on one of my cars I realized that while the stock was 51 watts the replacement was 55 watts but I think thats just to compensate for the light lost through the blue filter.

I didn't check the wattage difference if any for the Aero since I wasn't paying attention to the wattage until I decided to upgrade my Honda after the Aero. But I would assume that they run a few watts higher as well. According to what I've read on websites they are a bit brighter then stock but not by a whole lot.

There is a definate improvment in visibility due to the whiter light projected onto the road and since the white light contrasts to the road better then yellowy halogen light.

On the Aero I installed the Silverstars on one side and left the halogens on the other and I saw the difference.

I tried to take some pictures with my digital camera in night mode but the pictures didn't come out too good and they didn't pick up the difference in light I saw.

You can get a set of 2 for about $36.00 at Autozone compared to the $20.00 each if they are bought separately.

They seem to be selling well since in NJ 2 out of 3 Autozones in my area were sold out of the 9007's the Aero takes luckily at the third store I found them.
