RAMs Horns

Would someone tell me why a person would buy a set of 50+ year old rusty Rams Horns from EBAY for $400+ shipping When they could get a new set from Mummert?

Cheers,

Rick

Cheers, Rick
One reason: Genuine Ford Parts. Ppl want the genuine article, not some aftermarket stuff that may have come from China, Taiwan, or someone's home workshop. Where are Mummert's made?

The cast iron manifolds may be rusty, but they'll clean up. There's two chances for the Rams Horn manifolds to rust out: Slim and none.

There are two versions of the Rams Horn manifolds. One type fits the Y blocks like 256's, 272's and 292's. The other type are different because they fit the 302 and 332 Lincoln based Y blocks used in F500 and larger trucks.

Howdy Bill!

Well I guess I'll concede the Genuine thing...

I don't know where Mummerts are made but I would probably get them because they are new. I'm pretty sure that they are specifically made for the 272/292/312 type Y's.

Hey since I have your attention can you tell me which rear axles the 5 lug "Budd" hubs fit? I found a rear axle on a 56 F-600 (6 lug hubs) that has an Eaton 2 speed in it and it appears that maybe the 6 lug hubs could be replaced with the 5 lug hubs. (I cannot remember if you might have interchange info or not?)

Thanks,

Rick

There was a time when ppl wouldn't use anything but Genuine Ford Parts, but high demand, and the scarcity of said parts has caused many parts to be reproduced. Chinese made parts DO NOT have the tensile strength of parts made in the US. I'd be very cautious buying manifolds from an outside source, before I knew where they were made.

Are the Budd hubs for spoke wheels? There's 4 different types of 5 lug hubs, and 4 different types of 6 lug hubs...just for spoke wheels. Will need measurements from your 5 luggers to figure out what's what. Exact diameter and width is what I need.

Yeah. Some of the overseas junk is just that!

I'll do some measuring. I'm hoping that the hubs were the same for many years.

I think my axle is out of a 56 F-500/600. It's an Eaton 1350 I think.

I just want to know if I could use the 5 lug hubs from it on a somewhat later axle housing.

The wheels are "regular" budd type wheels used on all the F5/6/500/600's of the late 40's and early 50's

Plan on having the manifolds in tension?
