I was driving back home from the same advanced auto(where the plug blew) and I got a service engine light. I turned around and got it scanned, and it was a ignition coil.
When I replaced the plug I put a new generic advanced auto ignition coil on there, and am wondering if the motor doens't like the cheap coil. It runs the same with the light on as it did for the previous 5 miles without the light.
Could the cheap coil cause the motor to throw a code? In the morning I will visually inspect all the coils to make sure there isn't a physical probem with them. Is there any way to tell what coil is bad, I read here that the dealer has a scanner that can do it, but I would like to stay away from them if I could.
not sure, he said "ignition coil" I will go back there again if I can ever get the truck running again. I am in the middle of changing all of the plugs and I cant seem to get the socket back around plug # 10. Its my luck with this truck that the plug itself broke. I couldnt see what was keeping the socket from holding the plug, and the other 4 went smooth as silk. I got so frustrated I had to leave.
I always use ford coils ,so I can't help you with that. But be sure you don't have a little rock down in the sparkplug hole keeping your socket from going on.
Blow the area out !

Like Rich said - check for debris in the plug cavity.
You might get the local dealership to bench-test the coil and see if it spikes high or low, or both. The coils from Ford are better in the long run, imo.
Yea, Ive been blowing the hole out with one of those cans of compressed air. Thats about the best I can do up here, no outlets or aircompressors nearby. I will give it another shot in a little bit, It wants to punish me.
Well, I have been delaying the work. I was tired of working on it so I went fishing(king mackeral)
I bought one of those mechanics mirrors so I can see inside the plug whole and hopefully pull out whatever is in there. I am going to work on it again today. I will post of any success with the plug/ and or the coil.

Well, I got the offending plug out today finally! I found a piece of plastic, which I think is from the coil when the plug blew. It must have blown in when I was blowing air in the plug hole. It was a chore to get it out to say the least, it was jammed in between plug. Just changed the alternator this afternoon also. Hopefully I will be able to drive it again tomorrow.
