Leak

My '98 Ranger (4.0L) has developed a leak.
It appears to be oil.
NOT motor oil.
It's clean, and light weight.
It appears to be coming form the bottom of the plastic (I believe) heater box.
NOT inside the truck.
When I pull the plastic wheel well "stuff" back a little, and look up, I can see where the oil, is drippingg from.
I just don't have a handle on what might be the cause.
The oil is kinda greenish blueish in color. (It's NOT coolant)(Doesn't have the "anti-freeze" smell).
My gut is telling me it is lubrication from thr air conditioner.
I have NO experience with air conditioning.
I am guessing it might be oil from the compressor ???

Any ideas, fellas ???

Thanx, Gene

Sounds like an A/C system leak to me, too. Can you locate where it is leaking from?

Here is a '98 ranger A/C system diagram for reference:

No, not yet.
I can see up under the plastic fender well stuff, BUT, not good enough to tell where the leak is coming from for sure.
I was/am guessing the air (conditioner is leaking, too, BUT, what is the oily crapola ???
I'll take a closer look at your diagram, and try to give a better eyeball location.

Thanx, Gene

The air conditioner's refrigerant lines have oil in them, thats circulated through the system along with the refrigerant.

This oil lubricates the compressor & all the systems seals. So you very well may be seeing a clear oil dripping from a high side AC hose.

Is the system cooling ok???? If not, it's another clue & if true, you'll not want to run the compressor until it's checked out. Don't want to run that puppy low on oil & mess it up!!!!

Could it be normal condensation from your evaporator? Perhaps your drain tube is blocked and it is finding another place to drip out of?

YES, paw paw, the air conditioner cools fine.
NO noise, just the leakage.

AND

NO, Probedue (Dave).
If it were merely condensation, the leakage (on the concrete below the truck) would evaporate, right.
This doesn't evaporate.
It's an oil spot.

Thanx guys, for trying to help trouble shoot this, Gene
