Starting problems w/ 1986 302 w/ efi

Hi everyone, I bought this truck and it ran good I started it right up etc. drove it for a day then it acted like it was running out of gas then it was ok.
then it wouldnt start drained the battery trying. charged it up and it started and ran fine.
Now it wont start at all unless i use ether once it starts it runs good. If I turn it off it wont start unless i use ether again. Ocasionally it acts like its running out of gas and i cant keep it running once it stalls i use ether and it starts and runs fine....
any ideas on where to start would be appreciated thanks in advance.

IIRC, this year used the oil pressure switch to signal when to run the fuel pump. If the truck has low oil pressure, that could be part of the problem. You should change the fuel filter and check the pressure, though, just to be sure.

well this is what i did.
i thought it might be an electrical issue cause it did it sometimes and not others so i used wd-40 and sprayed every single conection under the hood and pluged them in over and over till they were good as i did this i checked if it would start inbetween each one to know if i found my problem. I cleaned all the connections on the solenoid and battery then tryed starting it it would spin but not start w/out priming the carb. i dont know what its called but there is a sensor on the throttle body that i took off and cleaned out w/ carb cleaner "lots of carbon". put it back in and it started right up this time w/ no ether. turned it off started it about 20 times. let it warm up tried it and it wouldnt start w/out priming it. Now the alternator belt broke and the battery died. I went to get the belt and the parts store was closed... went back to the the truck gave it a jump w/ another car and it started right up over and over till it was operating temp then it wouldnt start w/out priming it. said screw this and went inside.
ok next day went out and it started right up but stalled and the battery was dead so i went got the belt snapped off a bolt on the alternator took the alternator out got the bolt out put the alternator back in tightened the bolt jumped it and it started. turned it off then started it over and over once again till it was warm then it wouldnt start w/out primeing it till it cooled. some times it dont work when cold too though but most the time i have problems when its warm. dont know what forum i should be in not sure if its fuel, electrical, or just a junk lol but seriously it runs good once it starts. think the running out of gas was water in the gas and the dry gas i put in took care of that.
Anyone know if that sensor could be why its doing the not starting when hot or if thats a different problem?
something thats odd is it seams like it starts more on its own when its being jumped...

wooohoooooo problem fixed

Ok after everything i did i also added a ground from battery to firewall and engine to firewall and it fixed my problem
i think it was the engine to firewall one that did it because there was a ground strap on the engine but it didnt connect anywhere.

You definitely need the engine ground strap. I'm curious; how was your battery grounded beforehand?

probably through the drive shaft lol there wasnt a ground going to firewall from bat, only from bat to engine and plow and to the computer there wasnt a ground strap from engine to firewall. so added both firewall and body

well guess its not fixed...

i had a friend check the fuel pressure he said it was good. I changed the fuel filter. i checked to see if it was getting fuel at the fuel rail.
i cleaned all of my grounds and electrical connectors.
i had another problem this week of no spark so i changed the coil it wasnt it i changed the distributor w/ a bone yard one and it fixed my no spark issue but then when it heated up it died and the injectors werent getting any spark. so i changed the ignition module that fixed that problem. changed the water pump and a freeze plug that was bad and now the car isnt starting unless i use ether then it runs fine. if i shut it off i gotta use ether to start it any ideas?

Sounds like something in the crank circuit is not firing the injectors. That bad chassis ground could have damaged the ECM. Does it have good fuel pressure when it won't start?

uhm i dont have a way to test it but my friend at a garage said the fuel pressure is fine. that was when i needed to put a module in. it had spark at the plugs but not at the injectors. there was gas at the fuel rail but the injectors werent opening. that problem is fixed now. but i think the fuel pressure is still good i pushed in the shrader valve and it sprayed gas out past the fender.
