Why shorter pushrods? Every set I've used worked fine with stock length.

A 96 is a full roller motor. Cam, lifters, rockers, etc. The 351W went full roller in "94" and the 302 I think in "89 or 90". If I am wrong, somebody will correct me.

I've never seen a factory roller rocker in a 5.0. Only roller lifters.

I maybe wrong. But my understanding is that a roller motor came with roller lifters as well?? Even if you were to install roller rockers, the best thing to do is get a push rod length checker and check for proper valve geometry. Then you can send the measurements off to a couple of Manufacturers, Crane Cams, Etc. and they will manufacturer the push rods to length. Longer or shorter don't know? Do yourself a favor though, don't guess. You can wipe a cam, and possibly an engine!

Try and find a set by Ford for a 302. The only sets you'll find are from Ford Motorsports, and they aren't stock. Have you ever pulled the valve covers on a 5.0?

If the pushrod is too long, it may bend, but I've never had that happen. If the pushrod is too short, you'll have lower oil pressure and a clacking noise. If you suspect too long of pushrods, look at the wear pattern on the top of your valve stem. The correct length pushrod will leave the wear pattern exactly centered. Machinists bluing can be applied to the valve stem top, to get a quicker indication. Improper geometry in the valve train binds the valves stems, and produces friction. You can even get MORE valve lift without hurting anything, by going to 1.7 ratio rockers. instead of the stock 1.6 to 1. It simulates a higher lift cam, but nearly stock duration.

Roller cam and lifters only from the factory. Roller rockers are a bolt on, motorsports are made by crane cams, there are many otheres to choose from as well, do a search.

I actually did check a motor, and it did have stamped steel roller rockers on it. Was a 90 or 91 5.0 motor. But apparently they must of been aftermarket. The car had alotta aftermarket bolt on crap. My apologies for any mis-information.
