Oil Preasure Guage

Hey, I have a 90 ford Bronco. 5.8L AOD. Anyway After driving a few miles and stopping at a stop sign etc. my oil press guage drops to nothing. I can rev the engine up from 500 to like 700 and it goes back to normal. I have put a manual or whatever guage where the sensor plugs in and it reads a constant 25PSI while Idling. 40 at 1k RPMs. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
thanks

I have a 1988 5.8. A few years back, I had the same concern, so I hooked up a rubber hose and pressure gauge from the sending unit hole (with a nipple and tee) into the cab through the no-draft window. I could then watch the real PSI, AND the in-dash gauge as I drove around. What I found was that I had good pressure, but the in-dash gauge was very vague. Now, when I see my gauge go down a bit, I just remember the PSI gauge and relax. I have seen other people in this site talking about this problem as well. I would bet that it's just your gauge.

I installed mechanical oil and temp guages under the ash tray. Disconnected the stock ones. You will be amaized at what you learn about oil pressure, weights, stabilization, etc.

Get a Real Gauge

I had the same problem, with my fake gauge. It's really scary to see you oil pressure drop to nothing while driving on the autobahn. Try this:

the stock gauge is nothing more then an idiot light. only reads +or- 5lbs . a mechanical gauge is the only way to go and if you want to keep your engine light from being on with the stock gauge disconnected just ground the wire to the block and it will read +.

also Kelly your tranny is an E4od not AOD. The AOD was not offered behind the 5.8. mine has one because i swapped in the 5.8 because the 302 is a Dogg.
