302 PS Bracket Alignment
Case in point, the power steering bracket. I know that the original 390 in this '76 was swapped for the 302 (1970 I believe) that he truck currently has (I bought it from the original owner). I have not been able to get the squeal out of the belt. Well I found that the reason is that the bracket is at a slight angle. I am guessing that it was fabricated/modified to accomodate the pump. Are there different PS brackets for different years of the 302? I want to narrow my guessing down before I go hunting.
Another thing that I have found is that the auto shift linkage was too short so an extention was added to the end near the tranny. Shifts fine but I cant get my indicator lined up correctly. Can I get a longer (2") shift link?
Usually, on the transmission shift linkage on the transmission. Block the tires, place transmission in neutral, now adjust linkage to where the shift indicator is located to neutral. If it doesn't line up, maybe refabrication of the transmission shift linkage will be required. I don't know much of what style or models of linkage will fit.
The shift linkage issue. I understand how to set it, the problem is I don't have enough adjustment. It's like this 302 sits back farther than the stock 390 and/or they changed to a C6 and the linkage was shorter. Their solution was to cut the adjustable end off of another shift link and bolt it on the end of this one. My "move" needs to be where the extension was joined. Never seen anything like this. It works and shifts but does not line up. Counting the shift movement has become very important
I may be able to bend it but was hoping to hear from someone who has experienced a similar problem and found a successful solution.
