To me it means doing something you haven't done before. Even if it's something you have or haven't wanted to try, just something new.
do I adventure in my daily life for the most part no. I drive a truck, and run a dedicated run so no it's not really an adventure, although once in awhile just for fun I will run a different road to get to where i got to go. I used to run 38 states as an OTR truck driver, and in that job I would have to say yes I was adventuring most all days because unless I was really pushed on time I would run different ways of getting to places and ran a lot of backroads exploring the country. I just got bored running the interstates all the time.
Yeah. Woogs is right. It could be something you've done before, but there has to be something that makes it stand out. An element of danger perhaps.
2 driving examples...
Drove to in-laws on the Wed. before Thanksgiving last year. This is normally a 3-3 1/2 hour drive. However, we were under blizzard conditions that day. If we had realized how bad it was going to get we would have turned around. Took us 7 hours to get to Grandma's house. That time it was an adventure.
Rode in a van with my folks down the old Gold Camp Road from up around Victor and Cripple Creek into Colorado Springs. Had driven the same stretch of road with them before, and it was scenic enough, but not adventurous. My parents had driven it many more times without any kids along. But I digress... That particular afternoon a storm started up suddenly. It poured and poured. And rocks and boulders started falling on to the road way. That afternoon we had more adventure than I need to relive any time soon.
ah yes but you guys are missing hte point take example number one above, driving to grandmas house is not an adventure but driving to grandma's house in a blizzard was, the difference is you hadn't driven to grandma's house in a blizzard before so my premise stands. There is something in the whole thing that is different, lets say you were going to the moon THAT would be an adventure, but after you had went to the moon 10 times with no changes it wuold just be another trip.
Doing something that has an element of risk involved, something maybe a little daring that gets the blood pumping...like driving in San Francisco Bay Area traffic!
Or taking on the IRS...
Jumping out of an airplane... (with or without a chute)
(Not a lot of difference between the last two!)
Just getting through the day in one piece...that's my daily adventure at this point. Whether or not I up the ante in the future remains to be seen!
you either have a very boring life or a really scarey sock drawer<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZNxmk705YYUS' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_6_100.gif' alt='Afraid' border=0></a>
I drove cross country twice now, once in a lifted F-250 pulling a junk u-haul trailer, grossing nearly 12k. The second time was with my fiance in her new beetle convertable, with her dog in there too. Especially fun when we lost the headlights around South Dakota.
Both times were something of an adventure, but a little more routine the second time around. Right now, my adventure consists of wondering if I can afford the gas to go to work every day this week, and have enough money to pay my bills.
Adventure is what you make of it,monsterbaby is right its unknowing of whats going to happen next.
For me my first great adventure was when i joined the navy.My seconed was desert storm,i think you know were im going whith this, but my third"kids"that was somthing,it made the second trip to iraq a breeze.
Me and my wife eloped, i was 18 she was 17, (and yea that was a lot of years ago), anyway, we drove to Hazard, Ky, which is a small coal town about 300 miles from where we lived. She had an aunt that lived there so we were gonna go see her, not really sure why. Anyway, in the mean time, my soon to be brides dad had called the cops and,...did you know that taking a minor across state lines is illeagle w/o parents permission. And kidnapping, now that WAS a stretch!!!!!! It all worked out, we been married a long time now, but that WAS an adventure. But it was awesome non the less. I've wanted to elope again, and do it all over, but my wife won't let me!
So to answer the question, i've had what i consider adventures, but none really like that. I too drive a dedicated run, and dodging four wheelers all day is adventure enough for me.
I"ve had lot's of adventure.
Starting off into something you really dont know everything about, when the end result could be terminal, (should be terminal?) is Adventure.
It's been close several times.
Because of that, I'm really enjoying retirement.
By the way, you guys who've faced the Bear, might consider writing all that down somewhere, for your Grand children's, Grandchildren to read.
Just imagine how exciting it would be to read about what your Great Great Grand parents did for sport and excitment.
Blue Oval, what a trip! Wait till you have Grand daughters, and see how that comes back to bite you!
You obviousle made a good choice when you stole that guy's most precious....? You still have her.
I'll bet it took a lifetime to be comfortable around her dad. With that Shotgun right over there in the closet....
