'66 Galaxie/ Custom

LAST EDITED ON 16-Mar-01 AT 10:29 AM (EST)[p]I know this isn't a truck but I thought somebody here may know a bit about these old cars. I'm going to look at a 2-door '66 Custom (1966 Galaxie was my 1st car) tommorrow (Sat) morning and want to know what engines came with these cars. The owner says this one has a 302, but I thought 302s didn't come out 'til '69 or '70. Also, I've heard of 6cyl engines in the 66 Custom (but not the Galaxie)-anybody know what engine this would be? A 300-6?
The owner says the car is from North Carolina with no rot or soft spots, it runs and drives but needs restoration, ie. chrome is all in the back seat and trunk, etc. He's asking $800. Anything else particular to these cars I should look for? Am I nuts for considering this?
Of course, I'd prefer a 390 or 352 Galaxie XL but there aren't many of these cars (for cheap) available here in the rust country of Maine.
Thanks,
Skippy

Far as I know the 300 I6 was only put in trucks, but its little brother, the 240 I6, was put in cars including station wagons.

Nothing wrong with the Galaxies. I prefer the '69's myself.

LAST EDITED ON 11-Apr-01 AT 08:27 PM (EST)[p]I almost forgot about this thread. I spent the better part of a day going to look at this car back in mid-March. It was a nice rust-free North Carolina car, alright.....10 years ago before he parked under a pine tree with the windows down. What a joke. The car sank into the mud up to the frame; it had no seats, headliner, or dash; mushrooms growing in the floor pans (not the good kind), not the original engine, tranny changed from auto to manual, mouse or squirrel nests through-out, no paint anywhere, rust holes in the rear 1/4ers, no inner fender wells, missing all kinds of trim and chrome, not run in over ten years, etc, etc. Thankfully it was a nice afternoon for a goose chase. Ya try to be as specific as possible about the details...but details mean different things to different people. Maybe I'll ask for a picture next time....
anyway, I got a motorcycle instead of another car, for now
