When you rotate the tires on your Superduty, what method do you use?
Lots of theories on right and wrong ways to do it, some based on problems with radial tires when the they were first coming into the marketplace in America.
I do the front to back since hearing/reading about keeping the rotational flexing on the sidewall/tread going the same way. Could be a bunch of cra-, but it works for me.
i am a mechanic and all rotations i do are front to back same side. i do it because it works. rotation reversal and all that i have heard but i haven't seen or heard proof, but i have cross rotated before with snow tires to put the sharp edge digging and didn't have any probs.
You can rotate dually wheels. On models that have steel wheels all around, you can just take and swap from front to rear. On models that have aluminum wheels,(wheels are specific to front and rear) you have to demount the tires, swap front and back and remount/balance. That is how we rotate duallys at the shop.
Front to back same side. I called BFG last year when I bought my A/Ts and asked them about the problem with switching direction and the guy said there is no problem. You can switch tires from one side to the other. Otherwise how would you ever be able to buy used tires?
I would if I could. The stems on my rims are rigid and stand up to the hole in the rim so it's easy to check air pressure. But it makes a tire rotation impossible with demounting the tires and I don't want to go through that!
I've done front to back same side for nearly ever, because several years ago I had a tire slip a belt withing days of a rotation. Prior to that I crossed the fronts to the back.
Probably will go back to that next time....have a hard time keeping the shoulders square on the SD going front to back.
i noticed my brand new tires (front) were cupping inwards. (the front of the lug was cutting (on the top). i was going to get a front end alignment, but my uncle said because of the design of the suspension and other stuff, that it would probably be like no matter what. so i took the left tire and put it on the right side, and it has re-cut the cuppling back smooth now. i guess just do it every 1000 miles or so and they will stay smooth. our 550 has max-tracs, and they are cut SOOO bad.. they are extremely loud too.
