What is the difference between the 1704 and the 1704a. Is the 1704a better. My truck is a 2003 6.0 but it has been reflashed in 2004.I have a 1704 now but my truck was reflashed a week ago now it needs a update. I called superchips ,and with my receipt it is $75 dollars but i cant find the receipt and now it will cost $200 dollars. So if the 1704a is better i will buy it . Plus i dont want to wait 10-15days to get mine updated.
The only differene is the 1704A contains the files for 2005 trucks.
This has no effect in any way to 2003 trucks.
Once updated, the 1704 becomes a 1704A anyway, so don't waste your money on a new tuner.
With original receipt, superchips will usually update the tuner NO CHARGE if your truck has been reflashed. With no proof of purchase, it's $200.
Maybe something has changed in the two weeks since I've left?
I developed the files for the 1704 and 1704A, but (as of recent) no longer work for superchips.
The only difference is in the database, and the 1704 will automatically become a 1704A before coming back to you....so don't waste your money buying another one (unless you have another truck =o)
You may want to consider the newest SCT 9415 XCAL2, we have them in stock. They were released just this week by Super Chips Tunning. You can download the latest firmware your self to your PC for free.

The SCT product you are speaking of is in no way affiliated with the Superchips 1704.
SCT is a competitor of Superchips Inc.
This thread is about a guy who already has a Superchips Inc. 1704 tuner.
I have an 04 PSD with a 4.5" lift and 35" tires. I had Ford recalibrate my speedo. I was wondering if when I reinstall my tuner if that might affect the electronic recal that Ford performed for me. I am asking because I recently took a fishing trip and my destination was around 250 miles away and the odometer said I had traveled 130 miles and the truck only took 13 gallons of fuel. Hope all this makes sense, maybe you have heard of this before, let me know. Thanks

With the 1704, you will retain your recal.
The tuner leaves the speedo calibration exactly how Ford left it, since it is part of the "VID" block.
The dealer I have been using said they could not recal the speedo for my tires. Is the '04 computer different than a '03 or is he full of it??
Your dealer simply doesn't know how to do it.
FORD can do it, but not all dealers have people in house who can.
The VID block and abs module need to be reprogrammed.
It absoluely can be done, but most tuning companies don't want to mess with the ABS module (liability) or do not understand HOW to do it.
Most Ford dealers will have no clue how to do this.
LOL that is what i figured. Although I do have a dealer that is fully aware of the 1704 in the truck and are very good people to work with. So I will keep using them.
