rebuilt E4OD

I had my E4OD in my 96 F250 7.5L rebuilt 5,000 miles ago by a local transmission shop. When it goes into OD, the rpms will go up slightly for a split second then it shifts. It also will go into OD at around 35 mph when driving around town. The transmission shop tech and I took it for a drive with a scanner hooked up and it didn't post any codes. The tech said that he noticed it but that it was normal converter slippage and that he would add a little friction modifier - which he did and it changed nothing. Is this right? I don't remember the transmission shifting like this before it was rebuilt - which was for slamming into gears and not wanting to shift from 2nd to 3rd without letting off the gas. Is the shop just jerking me not wanting to honor their warranty? Thanks for any help.

No, the rpm shouldn't spike on the 3/4 shift. And that isn't "converter slippage", the 3/4 shift should be no different from the other shifts. Friction modifier is used to cure a shudder, not a slip (and what you are describing is a slip).

It could be anything from a valve dragging in the valve body, a dragging accumulator or a piston with a lip seal leak. The shop _should_ fix it under warranty.

I don't have a whole lot of confidence in a shop that would give a vehicle back to a customer that had a shifting issue as you describe and then tell them they knew of the problem!

Thanks for the reply. I feel a little better about taking it in and making them fix it right. I paid closer attention to the shifts and I wasn't exactly right about the rpm actually increasing on the 3/4 shift, it will hold at around 2200 for about a 1/2 second before finishing the shift. Under a load like with a trailer and when giving it heavier than normal throttle it doesn't seem to do it.
