Your suggestions and help plz

My truck: 2002 F-250, 6" lift, currently running BFG A/T 315/75/16's on stock rims (not my choice on the rims, previous owner)

My tires are finally to the point of wearing out after more than 50K miles. I'm now shopping for new rims and all terrain tires and will be purchasing in the next few weeks. My preferrence is for 20x10 rims (maybe 18's if I get a great deal) and tires between 35"-37" overall diameter. I am looking for a bargain, but not piece of junk tires and rims. I can't justify paying $350 or more per tire alone, then purchase rims on top of that. If anyone has suggestions of where to find a good deal, let me know. Vendors can pm me if they have some specials running right now.

I want all terrain tires, not mud (don't need the excess noise and reduced treadlife). I will be moving to Colorado soon so I would like a tire that handles well in the snow, as well as mountain offroading when the snow thaws.

Thanks for your help.

If you want a good performing snow tire you're looking th wrong way. I live in ND and it just finished dumping 7-15" of wet, heavy, white stuff. I have 285/75/16s and if you would like to hear my thoughts on these tires I'd have to PM you as I don't know if I could do it without many many 4 letter words!!!! The best thing you can do for snow traction is have tall, narrow tires (10" wide rims won't be good); I know they look really goofy but if it means the difference of being stuck in 6" of snow vrs 12" of it then who really looks like the dummy. I was feeling pretty defeated when I had to shovel a dang path in front of each tire because the they wouldn't do anything but spin, slide to the side, and begin to wheel hop; and by this time the backend was almost in the ditch so out with the shovel I went before I really was stuck in the ditch. I'm sure my big tough truck looked realy cool getting stuck in 6-8" of snow, lol!!!

Sorry for the rant but after last weeks experience I found out what everybody had told me, of course I had to have my own experience before I would learn my lesson!!! I'll be purchacing a factory set of rims and mounting some 33" tall 9" wide tires on them for winter use. My cool AR rims and big tires will be for the summer time I guess. It only turned into a $900 mistake but I guess I won't have to buy tires for a very long time, 6k a year so about 3k per year on each set of tires, lets say they last a min of 30k miles thats 10 years before I ahve to buy another set of tires, I guess I've blown $900 on stupider things!!!!! Good luck and put on what you want but don't say you weren't warned, lol.

Thanks for the warning, but I've already driven in plenty of snow with my current setup. My BFG's right now are about 12.5" wide and I've been able to handle the snow, slush, and ice pretty well, much better than any other car or truck I've driven before. I know wider isn't always better, and whatever new setup I get I probably won't go any wider than what I have now. My stock rims are just too narrow for the tires I'm currently running.

I'm just not sure if I want to go back to the BFG's, or if there is something better out there at a cheaper price. If anyone does suggest a tire, it definately needs to handle well in snow.

I've always like the BFGs and I've heard real good things about Bridgestone REVOs, Good luck. I have wild countrys, which might I add were highly recomended and performed awsome on a friends truck, but do not complement the Super Duty at all.

Cheap or great deal and good tires don't usually go together. I believe you can by a good tire at a decent price though. What I run in the summer is not a deal at all ($4,500.00 for the set up) but my winter wheeels and tires are ok. I run my stock wheels which are 18" and a XTX with studs. My last truck I ran SXT wild country and liked those also. I would spend my money on tires as the rims don't do anything. the safety and reliability are in the rubber.

From what I see once you get into that 18"-20" bling zone nothing is cheap. There are'nt many budget tire companies the make rubber for 20's.

LOL, bling zone, I like that. Yeah I know they aren't cheap, and I don't want junk. I just like to know that someone next to me didn't pay much less than me. I like a deal, not necessarily a steal.

I've been looking mostly at either BFG's or Nitto Terra Grapplers, but I'm not sure what else is out there in that size and what kind of prices to expect. I haven't looked much at the Toyo's, and I really haven't heard anything about how they perform or what kind of milage to expect out of them.

Thanks for the info so far, keep it coming!

I like the bling thats for sure, just got done changing the fuel filter. I'm still working on gettting that done with out diesel running down my arm. Well back to your tires. I wosn't sure about the TOyo's at first but loved the look. After running them for about 7000 miles i love them they ride good and are realativley quiet. I don't think you will like the nittos from what I have read. They sound like they are loud and wear pretty fast. I don't think you can go wrong with the BFG's The AT wears well has good traction in snow and rain and is quiet. Both my parents run them and they have worked well.

I've had Generals, BFG's, Goodyear ATS's and Toyo's. Out of those four the Goodyears and Toyos offer the best traction and ride and the Toyo's are 20%less and easier to balance. So I'm now running Toyo's. With proper rotation they're supposed to last 50k+ miles.

My BFG's have been through hell, but have held up nicely. I have 2 chunks missing out of the tread from the offroad beatings they have taken. Also they have survived many nail punctures (I lost count). Currently they don't leak any air, still ride smooth, but are worn out. I still have sipes and tread left, but I'm not wanting to run these tires bald with winter coming.

I've been thinking about going back to the BFG's, but they are the more pricey of the all terrains that I'm looking at. Plus there's endless posts about which tire is really better, some like the BFG's and some don't, compared to other brands. I've had Michellins and Firestones on previous trucks, and I've had BFG's, Toyo, and Yokahama on older cars. My personal experience on all terrain tires is someone limited, so if this thread is like beating a dead dog, well I just want to look at all options before I make a purchase.

Also, if anyone has some good places to look for rims and tires online, let me know. I've exhausted a few sites already, but any suggestions are welcome.

www.wheelpros.com Look at the XD Metal and KMC wheels. They are a good alternative to Weld and Evo. I have KMC Backseats 20x9.5 (big enough for 35x13 tires), and love them. I bought mine at 4 Wheel Parts. I think I got a decent deal.

Also, Toyo and Nitto are the same company. The Open Country and Terra Grappler are essentially the same tire. I have the Toyo Open Country A/T's and like them. They are surprisingly quiet and wear well.
