2011 FX4 Winter Tires

Hey everyone, so I ended up doing a dealer locate and getting a 2011 Black Fx4 ecoboost, with 20" rims. Now, as far as winter tires go, any suggestions? Keeping the same rims switching tires, or 20" snow rims, or 18" snow rims. Only thing is the 20" snow rims are only $200 more than the 18's.

Your thoughts and suggestions are much appreciated!

My best advise is that you hit Tire Rack and start doing some searching and researching. For the online community, they have some of the best user reviews of tires & a very helpful search engine.

While 20" tire & rims is becoming ever more commonplace, they are still a bit more expensive than their smaller brethren. So, it all depends on what you want to do in the end.

Staying with the OEM 20" rims may cost you more on a per-tire basis, but you would save by not having to purchase a set of winter rims.

Going with 15, 17, 18 or some other smaller rim will cost you more on a per wheel basis as you would need both tires & rims. On the bright side, if you live in a state that heavily uses salt and/or mag-chloride for de-icing the roadways, this could save your OEM 20 inchers from a fair bit of winter abuse.

And, on a side note, when you are looking at tires on Tire Rack, follow the link for the type of tire...it is beside the tire name in the blue bar. For example, my OEM tires fall into the "On-/Off-Road All-Terrain" category, and if you click on that tire category, it will take you to a ratings chart for that tire type....like this one. Personally, I think this is a great way to find highly rated tires that you may not otherwise consider.

Good luck with your hunt!

Thanks for the information! I went to my local garage, and he priced everything out for me, I found a set of 20" rims for the 2010 fx4 on a local classified site, he's selling them for $500 for all 4, no sensors but stems are in. I'm thinking I may pick those up, and just buy the sensors and tires from my garage.

i have had a set of stock steel xlt rims on my last 2 trucks with blizzaks mounted on them...i had a roush with the 20" rims with street tires on them that just wouldnt cut it, plus i didnt want to damage the rims by putting the snows on them...saves so much time and aggravation when u dont have to mount/dismount ..just pop the stock rims off and the snows with their own rims pop right back on
