I just made the switch from the 00 style to the 03 and up jewel style and I didn't notice too much of a difference (aside from asthetics) I'm running silverstars for bulbs. I was weary at first because I had heard that the output wasn't as good, but I couldn't stand the look of the old ones and figured, "If the lighting is that much worse, I'll have an excuse to buy some nice off road lights to stick behind the grille"
Well, the lighting wasn't worse, but I'm still looking for an excuse for the offroad lights
Left me know if you find a good set-up for mounting to the front.
I had the old Dick Cepek C-1000 Super Off Roaders once on my 1974 F250 High Boy.
What a set up.
Four 1,000,000 candlepower - 210 watt lights (each).
Hit the switch and night became day.
Just installed a pair of Sylvania Silverstar headlight bulbs and Silverstar fog lamps. The wattage is the same and they are DOT approved, but they burn at 4,000 lumens and appear (becuase they are) whiter and brighter.
My 2003 Excursion took 9007's for the headlights and 9245's for the fogs. Others have used 9005's for the fogs, but this is more wattage than allowed and I am not willing to take the risk.
Check out sylvania's website or check your local autoparts store. Advanced Autoparts had mine in stock and were cheaper than on the web. You can also check out their website as well for availability... I really like them!!
I looked at PIAA's and found them to be very pricy and gave off the same wattage and lumens as the Sylvania's... so I bought Sylvania's!!! I paid $27.99 for the pair of headlamps as they are on sale and Sylvania has a $5.00 off coupon on their website!!!
If you are troubled with the lens/headlight design, then these will not improve that... except for "throwing" a more whiter/brighter light out in front of you!!
Cobra,
jetlock had the setup I wanted... He put a billet grille in then had the 4 off road lights mounted behind the grille itself... so you couldn't even see them until you flipped them on. The only other look I could deal with would be the randy ellis light bar that mounts close to the bumper... But I prefer the stock appearance with the aftermarket performance
The bar was $199.00 plus some shipping. The lights I got local and the were about $250.00 per set. It was real nice to have the upfitter switches in the dash it made hooking them up real easy and clean. I have a little set of PIAA fogs under the bumper also. There are pics in my exterior gallery
Just wondering where you got the LED Lights. Was also curious if anyone has any pictures of Lights behind the Grille. Thought about doing this same setup but have yet to try. Beautiful truck by the way.
Broncoguy. The LED's came from Autozone. They are just single LED lights. Look at jetjock16 gallery for lights behind the gril he did a good job. Thanks for the props.
