Hey Ya'll. Got a call today from a buddy with a '84 F-150 who said his ignition switch won't turn. He also said there is a "funny looking" button on the left side of the steering column that he doesn't know the purpose of. He asked how to remove the switch and/or what could the prob be. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
If it's in the off position, he will have to take a chisel and break the outer piece off and extract the drum out. The auto parts stores have new ones with keys. The only way to get it out without breaking it is to turn it with the key to acc position, and push a pin in a secret hole and pull it out.
I always left my key in the ignition for years. About a year ago I decided to work on the lock on one of the doors, and pulled the ignition key out. Something fell apart inside and I could not get the key back in. I broke it out with a chisel, and put a new one in, and evrything is fine. It sounds worse than it is. I bought a new one from the Ford dealer for $14.00, and thought I would get a nice part, but it looks pretty cheesy(rough casting). I could have gotten the same thing at the autoparts store cheaper.
