Changing U-joints

Hi all,

78' F100 400/C6 2WD. I want to change my u-joints, one of the few things I haven't changed yet on my rebuild. The ones on there now were on the driveshaft when I got it from the junkyard. But, I have never done this before... How do you get them out and back in?

Thanks,
Rick

If you don't have a hydraulic press, you can do the remove locking springs and hammer them out.One end at a time.

Before you do this though, make sure you have some how marked them for correct installation of the new ones.

To install the new ones, use a vise, then to push them further in use a socket between the vise and the u-joint.

A large C clamp works well too if you don't have a press or a vise. I've done it many times that way.

When you reinstall ,Be aware of the needle bearings in the caps, be sure they do not fall out or get out of position.
