First of all i hope everyones old trucks are doing well, also Mines doing this! its been almost 20 years and still no one has answered this stupid question? seriously? mine is just starting to have problems shifting from 2nd to first and it acts a little inconsitantly sometimes. Can someone please link to instructions or help of some sort?
My trans builder said the governor slides off the front of the mainshaft requiring disassembly to change it.
I have the wrong one in my ford Van and it needs further delay before upshifting (like a trailer tow mode).
That sounds more like the shift modulator needs adjusted. Pull the vacuum line off and see if there is a small allen head screw down in it for adjustment. If there isn't then get one that is adjustable and go from there. Also they do make different length shift modulator rods.
Even though this is an old thread I have decided to try my luck. My 88 f250 2wd seems to not have a 3rd gear. It doesn’t even make an attempt to shift up, the only shift I get is at 22ish mph and 2200rpm, then what I believe to be second takes me up to 65 but I’m holding it right over 3k rpm. I replaced the vacuum modulator and there was no needle in the old one to swap out. I figured if the modular didn’t work then it would be time for a rebuild, but I was told to try the governor before resorting to a rebuild. Thoughts?
If there is no pin in the modulator it fell out during changing, at some point in time on an attempted repair. Doubt if it will ever shift to 3rd, surprised it makes a shift to 2nd unless manually selected.
Before I changed the modulator if I wanted to upshift I would just have to let off the throttle around 20mph and 2200rpm. After changing it the truck will shift without me letting off but it’s a super slow shift unless I do let off. As for 3rd gear, will I never see it unless I opt for a rebuild?
I have a C6 in my 71 f250. Having similar problems at others posting here. The trans is newly rebuild with about 50 miles on it now. Shifts smoothly, but unless I let off the accelerator momentarily, it will not up shift into second and never seem to shift into 3rd. Any ideas? It has a new modulator, pin, and good vacuum.

Should have been one. The C-6 modulator can't work without the pin.
