Turbo Question

How much side to side "play" should there be on my turbo wheel? I was cleaning up the motor after some work and noticed that when I grab hold of the spindle on the wheel I can move it side to side. It's a very small amount, but I don't know if that is OK or not. Thanks in advance for the help, aloha.

Radial shaft play cannot easily be measured. Pretty much as long as the wheel does not contact the housing it's ok. Axial endplay limits are .02-.10mm

Thanks cookie, I checked more carefully and wheel doesn't touch anything so I guess I'm OK, thanks again, aloha.

watermanh ... its like cookie stated, axial play is hard to determine, but it is very slight. you would prob need a dial indicator to measure it. it is definitely the wobble that takes out the compressor and turbine blades. I believe the turbo is moving in the 20,000 rpm range somewhere, so there is pretty much going on in there. Makes one helluva pencil sharpener. enjoy your ride. out
