Starter Keeps Cranking
I'm hoping this will be simple like the starter relay, but I'd like to here some other more wiser peoples oppinions.
I have had three starters do this.
Remove it >lube it > Test it about 15 times with booster cables and
install it.

Really.... that doesn't quite make sense to me. How could the starter drive sticking keep the relay switched on as to allow power?
BTW: If my multimeter was working correctly, when I had the battery disconnected it showed that the relay was in the on position.
You'd think that after a year of college electronics classes, I'd be able to truly pinpoint the problem.
Ok if the starter drive hangs up what keeps it cranking the engine?? Once the solenoid opens there is no power to the starter so it stops. Unless the engine is running then the starter goes "kaboom"

I would bet on the starter relay or a bad ignition switch with the slight possibility of a burnt wire bundle putting 12 volts on the wire to the "S' terminal of the start relay, saw that one once

Yes you would .
Sorry, I mis-read the first post.
I thought it said the starter was still turning with the engine running.
People often assume it is still cranking when the drive is actually hung up.
I didn't read the part about power still at the S terminal.
If it was, that's automatic, that the solenoid or igintion switch system is the problem.
I have witnessed a few starters that sound like they are still cranking but it was actually the starter drive hanging up and making the clanking noise.
This from engines sitting for a long period of time.
