Cummins/Ford

Likely been asked before, but I was talking with a retired diesel mechanic(who has 3 dodge diesels) and he was telling me that Ford owns Cummins?...I dont believe him but just thought I'd ask since I can't find it on here...anyways he say Ford has a long term contract through Cummins with Dodge, that's why we'll never see a Cummins in a Ford...or thats what he was saying.

post that ford finaly gave up on the navistar diesel, and just signed with gm to a 10 year contract for the duramax.

that should start a war or two.

Ford doesn't own as much of a share of Cummins as they used to, but even without the contract with Navistar, the 5.9 would never fit under the hood of an Econoline, so they'd have to redesign the van before they could use it... if they wanted to that is.

Ford does not own any part of Cummins as of right now. They owned like 13% more then 10 yrs ago. So now we can let this die.

ford never owned anything in cummins,

AND a cummins as 2 inches shorter then PSD, so it just might fit.

1. Ford used to own around 15% of Cummins, but sold it years ago.

2. CAT wants nothing to do with the consumer diesel market, and would have to build a new facility if they did.

What I want to know now is when I used to build dredging equipment is that, behind the injection pump on an 8.3L Cummins is why the "CASE" logo cast into the block?

Because Case Agricultural equipment, has significant ownership by International and there are agreements in place like International with Ford to provide Diesel Engines. In fact now they are Case/International. I believe Cummins, International, Cat are also options in their commercial equipment.

I don't know the share percentages, but all the big companies are intertwined. i.e. Ford, Cosworth, Jaguar, Range Rover, Mazda ect. Mercedes, Chrysler, Dodge. Chevy, Mitsubishi, Isuzu.

John Deere perhaps? a Deere diesel painted a nice green, and decently built, I'd be happy with that under my trucks hood.

even i have neglected the fact that ford owns volvo...and they make diesels too...but if in fact contracts are expiring and not being renewed then i would imagine anything is possible.

however, i realized in the end its all about profit and how much money can be made with any product offered...such as the liberty with its italian made detroit diesel...who is the major stake holder here?...i also know ford own the land rover division of bmw, but do they own bmw?...because bmw also makes diesel...also who makes fords diesels in their international cars?...mazda?...(i mean for the small stuff)

ok, perkins and cat were owned by detroit (2003) which in-turn is wholly owned by chrysler...thats all i could find or rather my most recent info, but from what i understend they broke off in 2003 as perkins and cat , but detroit is still chrysler

actually this research is kind of fun im learning something...it's a tangled mess..lol

Aparently Ford only owns the car division of Volvo, not the truck division.
