So why does Ford tweek the torque level down? To get the HP up? I think people would be impressed to see a stock IH engine stompin a cummins in torque!
We were...when it first came out. To get the hp that much higher, the torque values were dropped, and expanded over the RPM range to reach a higher peak hp, since hp is a function of torque and RPM. The stock VT365 makes peak torque somewhere around 1600 RPM I think, and is limited to 2100-2200 RPM. As far as my memory can serve me. I'll check out the Navistar site.
...so i was a bit off...230 hp at 2600 RPM, and 620 ft/lbs at 1400 RPM. Engine speed limited to 2800 RPM. Now, where's that kid that keeps saying that V8's make no low end?
