even i have neglected the fact that ford owns volvo...and they make diesels too...but if in fact contracts are expiring and not being renewed then i would imagine anything is possible.
however, i realized in the end its all about profit and how much money can be made with any product offered...such as the liberty with its italian made detroit diesel...who is the major stake holder here?...i also know ford own the land rover division of bmw, but do they own bmw?...because bmw also makes diesel...also who makes fords diesels in their international cars?...mazda?...(i mean for the small stuff)
As Nick mentioned, the Volvo truck division is seperate to Ford (I wish it wasn't)
Volvo do make a couple of smaller diesels though for thier cars in Europe.
Ford purchased Land Rover from BMW when they sold Rover. BMW kept Mini though. However Rover (NOT Land Rover or Mini) is currently in recievership.
Ford makes all of thier diesels for the European market. Mazda makes a couple of diesels too.
What you are most likely to see soon though is (when the low sulphur fuel comes in) is the engines developed with PSA (PSA is the joint Peugoet and Citroen company).
There currently is a 2.7l diesel V6 in the Land Rover Discovery 3 (single turbo variant) and the Jaguar S-type (twin turbo variant) that was developed with PSA. - This engine will be in the Australian Falcon soon too (or so I hear )
A 4.4l diesel V8 that was developed with PSA is on the way (some rumors have suggested that it will go in the F150 - I think that would be unlikely due to cost, the 4.5l PSD V6 is more likely in my opinion - thats if it happens).
i like all this twisted maze of who, what, when ... and now for my newest take while i have extra time for thought...on the recent history...although i didn't come up with anything new... "i heard" that the 7.3 wasn't going to cut it so they came up witht he 6.0 with the forthought of using it as a base for several motors; including smaller motors in the half tons, however witht he advent of the 6.0 "they" were focusing on the auto trans problems and not expecting any motor problems thus a lapse in new 6.0 being as trouble free as the 7.3. Now the 6.4 will be the long planned evolution of the 6.0 of which it was designed to do...did that make sense?

I always wondered why Ford offers the Cummins in the F-550 & F650 (I think it's those two). Or at least, they did about 2 years ago when I was on Ford's commercial truck website.
Ford offers the Cummins, a Cat, and the Powerstroke in the F650 and F750. Medium duty trucks often have more engine choices than the light duty trucks.
The F550 was never available with a Cummins engine.

F-650/750 Super Duty Chassis Cabs
Between the F-650 and F-750 there are three cab configurations; 39 WB/CA choices; three diesel power choices — the 6.0L Power Stroke® turbo diesel, the 5.9L Cummins ISB and the 7.2L Caterpillar C7 — along with heavy-duty automatic and manual transmissions from Allison, Eaton and Spicer.
Consider some of the following features that could be critical to Landscaping needs:
