Has anyone ever heard a clicking noise under the drivers side dash(near the brake)sounds like the relay that unlocks the gearshift lever when the brake is
depressed. It sounds like a relay but is a random repetative clicking. I t seems to go away and come back, so cant really take to the dealers they wont find it.
I can not say that I have had this problem. However, you are aware that there are a few relays under and behind the driver's side of the dash, RIGHT??? I just had to ask. If you could give a little more on info. on this, someone might be able to help you and you, in turn, could probably help someone else. Let's us know.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I had that in an old Astro Van I had occasionally, and it started to do it occasionally on my truck once I hit 10,000 miles. I dubbed it as normal, as no one has every been able to give me an explanation as to what it is coming from
I just noticed this today and I have the same clicking noise. It sounds exacly like a relay. It seems that when the truck is in park and i depress the brake it makes the clicking noise. Once I put it into drive, it goes away. I'm not worried about it, but you are not alone.
ok guys that click is the solinoid on the shifter. it prevents you from shifting into gear without your foot on the brake. below the steering wheel on the colum cover there is a 1'' plug pop it off and you will see what i mean. it is also good to know where it is in case your battery dies and you need to put it in neutral and move it. ford goes over this in the owners manual.

That is the interlock clicking. It's supposed to do that. It's what releases the park when the brake is pushed. These trucks are pretty quiet. Everything I've owned in years had one, this is the second that you noticed. The other was in a Touring Coupe.

Ahh yes, that makes sense. My previous vehicle had a manual transmission so I'm not used to this sound.
Im not sure if I missed som't on the original post but I can't tell if your hearing it while the truck is in motion or not? I have a clicking noise that occurs usually if i'm applying the brakes at a moderate-high speed over rough terrain or pavement. I'm so far assuming this is normal since my previous vehicle did it also..... ( I dealt with the noise for 5years) under the same conditions. ...Oh and the dealer claimed it was normal... somt. about a brake/ abs relay...kickin' in..
Thanks for the responces. It seems to have become more noticable now, as I can repeat it buy "rocking" the steering wheel back and forth. It definately sounds electrical as the clicking goes from a few repetitive clicks to sometimes sounding like
a oscillating relay(fast clicking). It will still do it while driving straight sometimes.

I can shift into neutral without the car being on, not sure of the dead battery though- although you do need to press the brake. Comes in handy when you need to move the car down the driveway a little- save wear and tear and gas, especally if the driveway is downhill.
