How to reset ABS warning light

I've recently replaced the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) but the ABS light is still displayed. The service manager at the dealer told me to reset the light.
How do I do this?
I've tried disconnect the negative wire on the batteries for 15 minutes but the light is still displayed.

Help....

A scan tool can do it.usually I disconnect the + side on the battery.
Lets back track why did you change the vss sensor?Maybe it wasn't the problem.
give us your symptoms for changing it.
The ABS has other inputs besides the VSS sensor.

if you have two batteries (as in a diesel) you have to make sure and disconnect both of them. anyhow trun on your headlights and disconnect both terminals of the battery/bateries for an hour. if the light is still on then something else is still wrong

A few days ago I turned on the truck and I noticed the ABS light was on. My truck is an 01 F250 4x4 Lariat 7.3. I searched this forum and most people suggested that I replace the VSS on top of the rear differential (even the parts guy at the counter suggested that I replace the VSS first since the part was on $25)

Yesterday, I replaced the VSS. I turned on engine, and the light was still there. I called the dealer, and the service manager told me to reset the warning light. I asked him if resetting means disconnecting both of the negative wires running from the two batteries. He nodded.

Well, it didn't work.

Now, I'm at a lost.

(By the way, my predator doesn't show any error codes)

Were you having shift problems with the tranny?
Did your speedo fail ?

If not its not always the VSS sensor
you may have a bad wheel sensor
or a bad abs module
loose or bad wiring/ connection to your vss sensor

Where is the ABS module located? I'm going to trace the wires and go from there.
Thanks.

The module is located on the HCU. If you need to remove the module, on trucks built prior to 11-30-00, you need to remove the HCU to get at the module. After 11-30, you can remove the module without removing the HCU.
I strongly suggest you use a scanner. Otherwise, you're guessing as to the problem. Also, I've found some vehicles store hard codes that cannot be erased merely by disconnecting the battery, you have to use a scanner or a jumper method to wipe the codes. And your light will stay on until you wipe the codes, regardless if the correct repair was done.

Most normal do-it yourself Scan Tools are nothing more than a Code Reader.

The ABS is a different animal, in fact my OTC unit will not even read/clear ABS codes. I go to Autozone & get it read for FREE, they need to use their "Actron/AutoScanner plus" some personnel know how to do it but most do not. Your vehicle Info must be loaded & chosen into Scanner before ABS can be read.

I feel u have a bad Front Wheel Sensor...Good luck

FYI...Whenever u do get the problem fixed, a ABS light will go out automatically w/a "very short" drive

F350 abs reset

I replaced the rear differential ABS sensor on my 2006 F350. After starting truck, the ABS light came back on. I have the Ford shop manuals, and after reading up on clearing the light, I found out you have to drive the truck for 10 seconds at 15 MPH. That clears the light if there are no other codes being thrown. It worked. Ford manual says trucks over 10,000# GVWR have to be reset this way...hope this helps.

you may also be able to find manuals/cd's with the information on ebay/amazon. Cd's under $40 or so are generally pirated and some may require the date on the computer to be set back some number of years to make them work.

ABS Light with TCS Light not turning off

I have a 2008 F350 Diesel 4x4 lifted with 37” tires and had this issue. The cause was water as I was cleaning the bed out with hose to install new tool box. Ignition cycles failed to reset the issue. I waited several hours with truck just sitting and tried again with same thing, ABS Light on and TCS Light ON and would not switch off. I solved by starting the truck from 2 wheel high and putting the truck in 4 wheel high and then putting in Neutral, and then 4 wheel low and drive it only a few feet. I then went into neutral and put the truck back into 4 wheel High and then to 2 wheel High and then into PARK. The ABS Light now turned OFF. The TCS Light was still ON. I then energized the OEM Trailer Brake Control and the TCS Control Light turned OFF and control using the dash button returned to normal. All this without the use of OBD-2 Scanner Tool with ABS Function and not having to disconnect batteries. Moisture is sometimes the enemy. Hope this helps out all who read.
