Were you surprised?
By Jim Edgar announcing he will not run for governor?
This is not a political thread. I am not saying he should have or shouldn't have and am not commenting on the current administration. I'm only mentioning it as a state of Illinois news story. (So please don't get us locked.)
I wasn't really all that surprised. I think I would have been more surprised if he had said he was going to run OR if he had made a big pitch for a specific candidate. SO. Were you surprised? [oh, and I'm a little slow on this. It actually happened a couple weeks ago]

He saw the brewing situation 8 years ago, and decided to retire. He saved the legislature from its self once, and doesn't want to go thru that again.
A better question though, if he ran again, would he have been the first canidate to carry both parties?

Hmmmmmm? I know the current Gov. (whose name I'm not sure I can spell correctly) has alienated many from his own party. And Edgar was distanced from any of the scandals. He might have carried both. I guess we'll never know.
