My 99' f-150 (4.6L) is not shifting into overdrive and the light on the shifter is flashing, not sure why, it just started doing this can anyone help me on this? Thanks
Welcome to the forum.
The flashing light is the sign of something being wrong. You need to the the PCM scanned for codes. This will tell you what is going on. It's kinda like a Check Engine light for your tranny.
Haven't changed anything on the truck and don't pull anything heavy 2 days before it happened I pulled a 16 ft jon boat but that's it. Took the truck to the shop 12 code errors not sure what codes but seems as though she's toast find out when they drop the tranny. Thanks guys
Not that it matters in your case, but that's reason numero uno why I tell people NOT to ignore flashing OD lights. Check engine lights, you can get by with for a smidge, but I don't know many folks who like tossing money at a new tranny after ignoring flashing lights, either, like many are prone to doing.
I had the same flashing O/D light on my 2001 F-150 at 43K mi. Found out that was a "check tranny" indicator and dealer soaked me for $400 (not within 36K mi. warranty) to replace a sensor/bulkhead assy/solenoid blah blah. Nothing actualy wrong with the tranny, just the sensing stuff.
Other than that though it's been good, now at 70K mi. and I do tow a pretty heavy boat.
Was reading through my 98 F150 manual the other day and happened to notice a sentence which said " flashing indicates a problem and you should go to the dealer immediately" or words to that effect.... I know this isn't very encouraging, but I distinctly remember the passage.
