weak coil pack
i have a 97 e350 van with 5.4. one of the cyls has a very bad miss through out all engine rpm levels. it is not setting a cel but as bad as it runs it should. in a van this engine is a bear to work on. but i need to find out witch one is is because the engine vibrates so much that it has cracked the converter off the exaust pipe . i suspect a bad coil pack because the hole is not totally dead. is there a way that i can test out these coils. from what i heard #7 is the one that usually has this problem. i`am sure someone on this board has a fast way to find out what one it is. your help would be great thanks for reading.

Get a scan from a local auto zone or good shop that has a scanner that can read misfires stored in the pcm.
You could do a ohm test ,but most cop's fail when hot.
You could have a bad sparkplug boot or a sparkplug about to spit out of the head.
Have you changed the plugs lately?

no havent done anything to it yet. bought the truck with a miss. no check engine light yet. have to remove the fuel rail on this van to do anything with the plugs or packs thats why i wondered if there was any way to test it out first. a total pain to work on. 1997 e350 van 5.4
