Sorry about the weird formatting -- this is taken from the 2006 Ranger specs page here at FTE. Was wondering -- I see that the base curb weight of the supercab is only 150 pounds more than the Regular cab. Does this look right? And the extra weight penalty for 4x4 over 4x2 is around 500 pounds! That seems like a lot.
I am thinking about getting a Ranger with the 4-banger engine. According to this table, I don't pay a big weight penalty for getting the Supercab over the Regular Cab. This doesn't seem right to me. Anybody driven both a supercab and regular cab with the same engine, and if so, does there seem to be a significant weight difference?

500 lbs. is a lot of extra weight to be hauling around! I guess all the extra equipment (transfer case, axles, etc.) for the 4x4 drive gets pretty heavy. Still hard to believe a Ranger weighs nearly 2 tons! Explains the crappy gas mileage IMO.
Looking at the chart, I don't understand why the super cab styleside 7' bed is lighter than the supercab styleside 6' bed? Those figures have to be reversed right?
The header is offset, you can't get a SC with a 7' bed, the std cab comes with either.
Yeah, that's right. Only the last two columns of numbers correspond to the SuperCab -- all the other number columns apply to the Regular Cab. I probably should have just typed in the numbers I was referring to.
Good question. I would assume it would include all fluids and a standard amount of gas + a standard driver weight. I thought I read somewhere it assumes a driver that weighs 154 pounds.
Given that the curb weights shown are *base* curb weight, this probably assumes a stripper truck. To get a meaningful/useful curb weight for a truck with some creature comforts, simply stop at a state operated truck scale, some city dumps, or a truck stop and have them weigh it for you. There should be no charge for this. You can choose to be in or out of the truck (I prefer to be in). Now you can compare this against the GVWR and easily determine the useful payload available.
I have an 02' supercab with a regular 6ft bed, 3.0 5spd manual, factory bed lid 2x4 and my registration says my unladen weight is 3226 lbs, (in CA they gouge you on your truck registration by how much it weighs), this year i paid $158.
