KZ Stonridge 5th wheels

I had posted last week that Raptor was coming out with some new stuff. So were at the dealer browsing around re-looking everything over.

Better half see's this stoneridge 5th wheel that she would rather get.

Trouble is the spec's. The one she likes the best and so do I is the 37RB.

It lists the dry hitch wt of 1920. While I can do that it does not leave me any room for error. Would the wet hitch weight be lower?

Here is the spec's:

<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=2 width=474 border=0><TBODY><TR><TH class=mainchartheader scope=col borderColor=#cccccc align=left width=214 bgColor=#00497b>Fifth Wheels</TH><TH class=chartheaders scope=col borderColor=#cccccc align=middle width=60 bgColor=#00497b>35RE</TH><TH class=chartheaders scope=col borderColor=#cccccc align=middle width=60 bgColor=#00497b>37RB</TH><TH class=chartheaders scope=col borderColor=#cccccc align=middle width=60 bgColor=#00497b>38CF</TH><TH class=chartheaders scope=col borderColor=#cccccc align=middle width=60 bgColor=#00497b>38SR</TH></TR><TR><TH class=chartsideheaders scope=row borderColor=#cccccc align=left>UVW (Unloaded Vehicle Weight)</TH><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle>10,520</TD><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle>12,090</TD><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle>11,140</TD><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle>11,390</TD></TR><TR><TH class=chartsideheaders scope=row borderColor=#cccccc align=left bgColor=#eeeeee>Dry Hitch Weight</TH><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle bgColor=#eeeeee>2,000</TD><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle bgColor=#eeeeee>1,920</TD><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle bgColor=#eeeeee>2,260</TD><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle bgColor=#eeeeee>2,110</TD></TR><TR><TH class=chartsideheaders scope=row borderColor=#cccccc align=left>Dry Axle Weight</TH><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle>8,520</TD><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle>10,170</TD><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle>8,880</TD><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle>9,280</TD></TR><TR><TH class=chartsideheaders scope=row borderColor=#cccccc align=left bgColor=#eeeeee>NCC (Net Carrying Capacity)</TH><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle bgColor=#eeeeee>3,480</TD><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle bgColor=#eeeeee>1,910</TD><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle bgColor=#eeeeee>2,860</TD><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle bgColor=#eeeeee>2,610</TD></TR><TR><TH class=chartsideheaders scope=row borderColor=#cccccc align=left>GVWR</TH><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle>14,000</TD><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle>14,000</TD><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle>14,000</TD><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle>14,000</TD></TR><TR><TH class=chartsideheaders scope=row borderColor=#cccccc align=left bgColor=#eeeeee>Interior Height</TH><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle bgColor=#eeeeee>76"</TD><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle bgColor=#eeeeee>76"</TD><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle bgColor=#eeeeee>76"</TD><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle bgColor=#eeeeee>76"</TD></TR><TR><TH class=chartsideheaders scope=row borderColor=#cccccc align=left>Exterior Height</TH><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle>153"</TD><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle>153"</TD><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle>153"</TD><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle>153"</TD></TR><TR><TH class=chartsideheaders scope=row borderColor=#cccccc align=left bgColor=#eeeeee>Exterior Width</TH><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle bgColor=#eeeeee>101"</TD><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle bgColor=#eeeeee>101"</TD><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle bgColor=#eeeeee>101"</TD><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle bgColor=#eeeeee>101"</TD></TR><TR><TH class=chartsideheaders scope=row borderColor=#cccccc align=left>Exterior Length</TH><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle>36'9"</TD><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle>40'8"</TD><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle>40'6"</TD><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle>39'10"</TD></TR><TR><TH class=chartsideheaders scope=row borderColor=#cccccc align=left bgColor=#eeeeee>Refrigerator (cu. feet)</TH><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle bgColor=#eeeeee>8</TD><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle bgColor=#eeeeee>8</TD><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle bgColor=#eeeeee>8</TD><TD class=chartbody borderColor=#cccccc align=middle bgColor=#eeeeee>8</TD></TR><TR><TH class=chartsideheaders scope=row borderColor=#cccccc align=left>Water Heater Cap. KZ Recreational Vehicles: StoneRidge 37RB

I am thinking that once loaded the hitch weight would reduce?

You are really crowding it here weight wise. These are great rigs, we looked closely at these at the Ft Worth RV show a few weeks ago. We ended up buying Keystone Cougar. My biggest concern was with getting this close to the top end on weight, would a dually make it a more pleasant experience with the weight? Sure it would! I do envy you as this would be great fun and comfort to have.
I scaled my 08 empty, no tool box and loaded fuel, 9100 lbs. I was not expecting it to be quite this high. I was expecting more of a 8300-8500 lbs range.

My gut, with your experience, is go for it. You will never know till you try.
Happy RVing!

just got back from the scales with me a full tank 8260 lbs. So this will put me over the 10K max.

3160 is the drive axle so I am technically good there as my max is 6100 lbs. Total combined would be ok as that would be well under 23K.

License wise I can do up to 26K.

So it amounts to the king pin wt. I am gonna ask them about putting it on a scale to really see what it is.

Scott,

Saw that one at the Timonium RV show. Beckley's Rv had it, I think. Beautiful rig. As long as your axle weights are OK, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

is nice isn't it....I have only one problem here and that is a exceeding the door sticker of 10K. Solution is I am going to look into getting it registered for a higher limit.

Then I will be legal if pulled over.

What do you all think about that?

Scott, I've been pulling RV's for over 40 years and I have NEVER been pulled over by ANYONE to "check my weight"! Neither will you! If you go 10% over no one will notice nor care! I have traveled coast to coast many times and never been stopped. Buy it and have fun.

I picked up my new (to me) 5th wheel at Beckley's in October. Good people to do business with!

(BTW, the Maryland Chapter members are meeting in Frederick next Sunday at Glory Days..... you gonna show up?)

Well that is good to hear as I am going to get it. Got the loan already so it is just a matter of settling on the price.

We are going to order one as the one on the lot has a wine rack that we don't want, plus we want more ceiling fans.

I have always bumper pulled everywhere so I am looking forward to it. I am going to get a hitch that you can remove and there will be no rails in the bed.

Get after it!!! Your scaled weight is below mine, as I have a 100 gal tank in the bed and it was full with me in the cab. So it all makes sense. I have ran class A motorhomes for many years and never, never have been pulled over. I never witnessed a TT or 5er pulled over either other than for heating issues on the west side of Monarch Pass in Colorado. I have tried to stop at scales but they waved me on thru, so I quite trying even pulling a jeep. Good luck, I think you are doing well with this decision....

While there are instances of RVers being stopped for weight, they are so rare as to likely be less than being struck by lighting. In general, state laws related to weight apply to commercial carriers. None of this, of course, is intended to encourage anyone to run overweight.

To run a lower pin weight wet requires tanks behind the rear axle. Then, provided you know the exact lengths, you can calculate a possible reduction, but it will not be great and I would argue against running with large tanks full, unless one were looking for a way to rupture a tank.

As always it is best to weigh. Remember, manufacturer's weights do not include options such as awnings, so the weights on the tag are generally less than the actual dry weight. On the other hand, I have seen a number of rigs that weigh many hundred of pounds less than what is shown on the label. Again, you never know, unless you weigh. some manufacturers weigh each rig, other use on a representative weigh for typical examples of each model.

Getting a new rig is always exciting. I haven't done much on KZs, so I will be anxious to hear how you like it, once you are in it.
