Lockable fuel cap

Neighborhood is having some fuel stealing/siphoning trouble. Does Ford or any aftermarket manufacturer offer a locking gas cap? I know some are vented and some are not. What do I need?

Most dealer service centers carry them. Be leary of the aftermarket, as some will not seal, giving you a CEL.

Got mine at Autozone for $20. Pretty sad, isn't it???? I have now been leaving the fuel door to my VW TDI open in hopes one of these jack*sses siphons and runs it in a gas motor. That should be good.

I got mine because the price of gas is slowly creeping towards $4 a gallon. And the servide stations around me used to be pump first and then pay. Now its pay first before you can pump unless your using plastic. I purchased mine at Advance Auto for $26.

Bought mine at a local dealership because I didn't want to worry about venting concerns. Cost was $54 Cdn. but as the price of gas keeps going up, it was worth it for the piece of mind.

I haven't thought about it until now, but i guess it's a good idea since a tank for the Expedition nowadays is around $80.

Ford has an OEM approved locking cap in the accessory catalog.

I do not believe a siphon hose will go more than 1 foot into the filler neck. Almost every vehicle since the mib 90's has a ball in the neck so if the vehicle rolls over or tips the ball rolls slightly up the neck and seals gas from leaking out. Try and fish a siphon in there, if will not get to the fuel then don't bother. I can't get a siphon in my 96 Blazer I will have to try it on my 01 Expy Just trying to save you a few $

Got the same awnser from Ford yesterday, since 96' federal regulations have required the rollover valve that inadvertantly prevents siphoning. Talk about a blind squirrel finding a nut on that one.Apparently if you mess with it enough, you can force a piece of 5/16 line in, but it gets compressed and without some kind of actual pump mechanisim it will not siphon.

That might explain an item I saw on the local news that said there has been a rash of gas thefts. The prefered method is to punch a hole in the bottom portion of the gas tank and catch the gas as it drains out. This is apparently not too hard to do since newer tanks are plastic vs steel.

Try using a Mossberg 500 to prevent gas thefts.... and string him up in the front yard as a warning to any others.

A word of advice, keep it dry. Last year my key wouldn't enter the lock. I took it home and warmed it up and everything was fine. I ended up replacing it a short time later. With the rate I use gas, I just can't afford to not be able to fill it up in the dead of winter.
