Rear Audio Controls Inop

I just bought my used (12k miles) 2005 Ex last night. I LOVE IT.

Problem... I can't seem to get the rear audio controls for the stereo/entertainment system to work. I pressed 3 and 5, 2 and 4. I tried everything. Nothing gets them to work.

Is there something that I am missing?

Any help is appreciated!

The only thing that comes to mind is make sure the front volume is turned up.
The front volume **** sets the maximum volume limit for the rear controls.

Rear Audio Control Inop

If memory serves correctly......I remember reading in the owners manual that by pushing a combination of buttons, you could disable the rear audio controls. I dont have the X here with me so I can't confirm that. If you have the manual, check there first.

Oh, I forgot to mention that mine is an '05 and I have been meaning to try and disable the rear controls. We have three kids and our four year old's legs are just long enough to push the buttons with his feet.

Update:

Ford replaced the head unit and still no luck. They have just replaced the rear audio controls and no dice there either. They are now going to call Ford for advice.

Wish me luck.

Also being fixed while in the shop... Drivers seat leather color is flaking off (new seat cover on order), oil leak/spray near the top of the engine, and a broken wire above the left headlight (I don't know what it's for).

Mwachel,
Please keep us updated....I am having a similar problem too. I just have not had the time to take the Ex to the dealer.

I also can not get the rear DVD player to play while I listen to the radio up front and visa versa. Are you having this problem too?

FIXED! The dealer ended up tracing every wire from the stereo back to the DVD and the rear controls. The problem was (get this)...two of the wires were wired wrong at the factory and were shorted together. I guess the guy that owned the truck for the first 12,000 miles never tried to use the DVD separate from the stereo.

Works great now. It took them 8 hours of taking the DVD system down, the carpet out and the dash apart to get it done.

Good luck with yours. I love the way it works now!!!

One easy thing you can do is to pop the rear cup holders off and make sure the connections are seated on the rear controls. The other thing you can try is taking the console out (4 bolts at the bottom inside) and checking the connections under there. Easy to check and it might fix your problem.

Thanks for the update.....I really need to get this fixed before the Thanksgiving roadtrip, I think 16 hours of Barney would make me drive off a cliff!!!

Did they tell you which wires and where? If possible I would like to tell the service tech to try and save some hours the dealership has the rig...
Thanks,
Howard

Something you have to build up a tolerance to....kind of like drinking a 12 pack the first time you try beer

That's an idea, if I don't get this fixed in time I'll have the wife drive, I'll sit in the wayyyyyy back and have a drink of beer each time I hear "barney"

Not Sure If Thats Such A Good Idea. By The End Of The Trip, You Would Probably Have More Beer Than Blood In Your Body..but That Could Be Good...

I don't have any idea which wires they fixed. Sorry about that.

I would check the connections that you are able to get to easily first. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
