How hard would it be to convert my 2 wheel drive 1980 F100 into a 4 wheel drive? I am pretty sure I have the T18 4 speed, and I am not sure what it would take to add a tranfer case, and front axle. What else would have to be swapped, and what could be my options for doners?
I know this is a newbie question but please humor me even if it sounds horrible.
Thanks though,
Ratfink
And hey, it won't be long before I can hopefully add to the knowledge here a little. I just need some time to work with my new baby.
Well, I've never done this swap myself, but if you can get a complete donor truck it would be so much easier. Check out Lee Lichterman's gallery. He's doing the same thing to a 2wd and it's now a 4x4.
i am not sure yet but i am going at this soon i purchased a 1985 f-150 swb 4x4 from a local bone yard complete for 200 bucks so i can convert my 1984 lwb over to 4x4.. so iam basically using a same style donor but i plan on using the 85 to put a set of leaf springs under the front for a trail truck... i will let you know how it all works out but i suggest using a donor from the same years since it appears to be a lil more straight forward
F100's were produced in North America until 1983(I have 81 and 82 examples)
After 77, they were not offered in 4wd from the factory.
This is my 81 F100 on the stock frame after being converted to 4x4:
It's currently migrating to an 86 F250 diesel chassis...
