Alrighty I have the 1980 F100 Stepside, and for some reason no matter what position I put the gas pump nozzle in the filler neck. It will not allow me to give full speed with the gas. It surges back up and overflows causing me to drip precious golden drops of heavens nectar all over the ground.
Is there somthing obstructing my filler neck or is this normal with the stepside?
I am not even sure if it has the original tank?
This is a common problem with these trucks. I saw several threads on it, and I had the same problem with mine.
If you look at the filler, it's a good sized metal pipe. But inside this pipe is a plastic pipe that runs up the middle. On one of the threads someone said this was to let the air escape when you are filling the tank. That makes sense. I can see a air coming back up the filler and burping gas all over the place.
Anyway, this little plastic pipe inside has a clip that holds it in place. Mine had come loose, and was getting in the way of the gas, splashing up in the pump nozzle making it cut off. I placed the pipe back in the clip, and it fills much faster now. You have to take the filler neck off to see all of this.
Cool, I will take it off tomorrow, cause I could barelly get the gas in. THe stupid nozzle was stiff, and would not let me go slow, and the thought of wasting gas right now just makes me sick. Thanks for the tip, I'll let you know if it gets fixed.
