Hello, first of all I am putting this question in this section for oen reason. I have an F100 with a 351 windsor. This is not a stock engine in this body style and that is where my question lays.
What are some good header setups that will fit in my truck good, and give me some good low to mid range power?
I ask because it looks like the frame could be a problem, but I am new to this ford platform. Could ba that many of them fit just fine and I am just worrying.
Can anyone fill me in?
Thanks,
Justin
2wd or 4 wd? They did install the 351w in this body...it was the 351 HO (1985/1986). I would get a set of headers for this model if they are available.
As for brands...I am very brand loyal on headers....I don't think there is a better company out there for fit/sealing/lifetime than Hooker. Step up to a good set of headers and you will not be disappointed.
i have a set of long-tube Tri-Y headers on my 460, and they give me great low and mid-end torque. i love them. i have never tried out the hooker headers, but i will definately look into them for my next truck. good luck

This is a 1980 F100. Two wheel drive. And the engine sits pretty low. Not sure if that is normal, but it works.
I will look into hooker and see if I can talk to somone there that could tell me if I might have any issues.
Oh this is also a non-evirometally friendly truck. No smog here. So that is not important to me.
It just looks low because of the shape of the frame and the engine crossmember. You sould be good to go with the headers! Summit has always been the best price for me on headers.
Okay I just called Summit and they were able to do a search under engine swap for my truck. They gave me these numbers for competition: HOK-6912HKR, and for super comp: HOK-6838HKR. ON the Summitracing site.
I can get the set of competition headers for $169 plus shipping for the pair. Not bad at all.
Anyone know the main difference between the two sets? Is it just the coating? Because they both have the same primary and collector sizes.
The difference is the super comps are designed for more specific applications and are better "balanced" than the competitions (equal length tubes, etc). The comps are a little more general in fit but still work great and have the same workmanship as the super comps. I have supers on my V8 Courier, and I have used comps on my stock cars....they both work and fit fantastic.
You should just go with the comps, less money and you are not tuning the big $$$ engine any ways, in the low RPMs I doubt you will see a difference.
Cool, thanks for the reply Kenny. Sounds like you have the experience.
I would not spend the money on the Supers, cause I am a little cheap. And like you said I do not need the best. I just need functional. And for $170 or so for a set you can't go wrong.
This truck is a bunch of fun already. But the engine is tired and abused by the PO. So sad to say it is out and in with a new short block.
Which would be a question for anther thread.
Thanks again.
