i worked at kragen for 3 months . big mistake looking back on it.i would never work there again. it was during 97.
Yup Kragen (or Schucks) wasn't very employee friendly. They would try to hire our assistant managers away, offering them manager slots at better pay, short hours, whatever, then fire them within a month or two.
It is an old business trick, hurting the competitions 'second tier'. After someone quits and then gets fired from the new job, they are seldom re-hireable, even if they suck it in and reapply.
They even got a couple of my district managers to fall for it.
Nice looking stores though.
Problem with retail autoparts, if you aren't the manager on up, you aren't making a decent living. In 90 we were only paying twice minimum wage or about 9.50 an hour for counter help. Less for cashiers and stockers.
Even a decent assistant only averaged about twenty four a year.
Stock holders wanted that bottom line, and never really understood that professional parts people need more than the guy at a 7-11 or K-mart.
Kragen was paying half what I was for managers, but they worked less hours and made less decisions.
So they had a lot less trouble filling slots.
Oh well. Glad I retired.
Have a great one
Chris
I've got all the WIX numbers... I worked at Checker (Checker/Schucks/Kragen) for a couple months then at Bumper to Bumper for almost two years... I actually liked B to B, but never going anywhere in that job made me change... O'Reillys buying us out was the final kick in the jaw.
